Mindfulness Meditation
MINDFULNESS can be defined as “the awareness that arises through giving something your full attention”. It is a perfectly natural phenomenon, and you may have experienced it when you are at ease and giving 100% of your focus to whatever you are doing e.g. gardening, or drawing or watching your children sleeping. The problem is that in the modern technological world many of us we have developed the habit of multitasking and so find it hard to focus totally on just one thing and feel uncomfortable with stillness or silence.
MEDITATION is “the experience of a completely peaceful mind” a sense of being fully awake but not thinking. It is what happens as a result of mindfulness. If we develop the concentration to focus completely on e.g. our breathing in time our mind will be so still we just stop thinking and it feels delicious. Research studies show that regular meditation can improve our sense of wellbeing, our sleep and act as a tool for building self resilience.
I have 45 years meditation experience and have taught mindfulness to private clients and within the NHS and private medical settings for the last 14 years. For many years, prior to covid I ran 6 weeks meditation courses and a regular drop in class in Egham
I am currently offering individual classes either in person or via zoom and I hope to hold a six week meditation course in Egham in the latter part of Autumn. Practices will include: Using the breath, or visualisation or sound to calm the body and focus the mind and practical tools for integrating mindfulness and meditation into daily life.
